Game Fair

The Game Fair is the annual gathering for people passionate about countryside pursuits, and the Great British Countryside in all its glory.

One of The Game Fair® core sectors – angling – has been given a big boost for 2018 with the return of fishing tuition and casting competitions.

The picturesque lake at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire, will welcome the experienced coaching teams from National Fishing Month and the Game Angling Instructors’ Association (GAIA). They will be present throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 27th to 29th, offering coaching and tuition on the lake, which is well-stocked with a wide range of fish including some stunning carp.

It’s a terrific opportunity to have a go at this popular sport if you have never tried it before. Or try your hand at fly-casting with advice from top game anglers, either from the bank or from our dedicated pontoons.

The events will kick off National Fishing Month, a celebration of angling that runs throughout the summer holidays to encourage more people to try their hand at the sport.

Meanwhile, those with more experience can enter one of the popular casting competitions run by the British Fly Casting Club. There were will be single-handed and Spey casting contests while the team is also looing at the possibility of a grassed-based accuracy competition too.

The Game Fair® angling consultant John Hunter said: “Fishing has always been a core part of The Game Fair so I am delighted that, in its 60th year, it will once again play a prominent role in the weekend.

“National Fishing Month, GAIA and the British Fly Casting Club did a fantastic job of running events by the river at Hatfield House in 2017 so it’s fantastic news that they are returning for 2018.

“Ragley Hall is a special venue, the lake is stunning and it’s really well stocked, which means those ‘having a go’ may well catch their first fish if they have never tried it before.

“The casting competitions are always an attraction and, with the world championships set to take place in the weeks following The Game Fair, it’s a fair bet that some of the competitors will be using our event for some useful practice.”
