The Game Angling Instructor’s Association is set to officially launch its latest initiative the ‘Casting Proficiency Awards’ at this year’s Game Fair weekend 26-28 July 2019 at Hatfield House.
It follows a successful trial with candidates up and down the country, and GAIA will now be heavily promoting the scheme. Targeted at newcomers and existing anglers wishing to test their casting skills in fly-fishing it provides a means whereby those signing up for the scheme can be awarded a ‘Bronze’, ‘Silver’ or ‘Gold’ award.
Chris Aldred, GAIA’s Chair of Assessors who developed the idea said:
“This really is a ‘win-win-win’ scheme and likely to attract participants from Clubs, Schools and Fisheries, not to mention members of the public who are interested in developing their own skills and who knows, perhaps progressing to being an Instructor themselves after some follow up coaching.” Chris added: “ the scheme is all about motivation, engagement and the great outdoors for our beloved sport with a recognition for achievement”
To be awarded a Certificate Of Achievement, candidates must demonstrate certain skills that become more complex as they progress from Bronze, Silver, through to Gold. It has already been positively received by young adults, Angling Trust and other stakeholders.
So, come along to the Game Fair, Hatfield House, have a casting session and earn yourself a badge!
